A convicted felon is now in custody for the June gun-related aggravated assault on an officer in East Nashville. Marcus Smith, 47, had drugs and a loaded firearm on his person when he was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by Violent Crimes Division detectives on Stable Lane.
Smith had multiple outstanding warrants as a result of a June 26 traffic stop where East Precinct officers noticed the black Infiniti G35 he was driving was displaying a non-official tag. As the officer approached the Infiniti, he noticed the driver was holding a handgun then raised it before the Infiniti fled.
During an interview with detectives, Smith admitted to being the driver from the traffic stop.
Inside Smith’s lunchbox, detectives found MDMA and marijuana.
He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor drug possession, two counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon, aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading arrest, two counts of probation violation and alteration of the gun’s serial number.
Smith remains jailed today in lieu of $116,500 bond.
